Man booked for rape

CHANDIGARH: Issuing a notice of motion to the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on a petition filed by the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, challenging “arbitrary” imposition of approximately Rs 8 lakh as penalty, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed against the initiation of the coercive action.



Ludhiana: The Daba police booked a person for raping his daughter-in-law. The accused has been identified as Surjit Singh, a resident of Lohara road. Complainant told the police that due to some issues at her in-law's house, she was living at her parents place. On April 20, on the assurance of better treatment at house, she started living at her in-law's house. On the night of  April 21 , her father-in-law, Surjit forcedher into physical relations with her and also threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter to the police. Accused is yet to be arrested.

One held with 90 cases of liquor

The Sadar police nabbed a bootlegger and recovered 90 cases of illicit liquor. The accused has been identified as Gurvinder Singh, a resident of Dharor village near here. Investigating Officer, Gurpreet Singh, said, acting on the tip-off, the raid was conducted at the specific place of the accused which led to the recovery of illicit liquor. He said further probe was launched to bust the entire supply line.

CIA arrests two snatchers

The CIA 2 wing of city police nabbed two snatchers and recovered one motorcycle and eight mobile phones from his possession. The accused has been identified as Deepak Kumar alias Elfy, a resident of Daba and Pardeep Singh alias Monu, a resident of Lohara. Police said accused had been looting the migrant laboures of mobile phones and other valuables. In the recent past, the accused had committed several snatching and in further probe, more recovery of looted valuables could be made.

19-year-old kidnapped

A 19-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by a man. The accused has been identified as Shani Sharma, a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. Complainant Mohd Khalid of BRS Nagar told the police that on April 23, her daughter had gone to hospital to buy medicines but she did not return. He suspected that the above said person had kidnapped her on the pretext of marrying her. Police launched manhunt.

One held for illegal mining

The Meharban police nabbed a man on the charge of illegal mining. He was identified as Hardyal Singh, a resident of Jalandhar. Police said acting on a tip-off, the raid was conducted at Sikri village from where the accused was nabbed with the illegally mined sand loaded tipper. The tipper was also impounded by the police.— TNS
