Ludhiana, August 31

The city police have booked a man for raping his wife. They have also booked the parents of the accused for demanding dowry from their daughter-in-law.

The accused has been identified as Vaibhav Likhi (husband), Kuldip Likhi (father) and mother, residents of Club Road.

According to information from the women cell, Vaibhav and the victim got married in 2012 after a love affair. The police said the court provided them protection as their parents were against their marriage.

Sukhpal Kaur, Station House Officer at the Women Cell, said: “The victim had complained at the local court. We have received the orders from the court to register a case against the accused persons. Following the court orders, we have booked Vaibhav and his parents. Now, we will investigate the matter”.

In her complaint, the victim told the police that the parents of her husband used to harass her and demand dowry. They also threatened to kill her. Meanwhile, she also complained that her husband used to have non-consensual physical relations with her.

The police have registered a case under Sections 376, 498-A, 406, 506 and 34 of the IPC in this regard. No arrest has been made so far.
