Man drowns as friends take a dip in canal to beat heat

LUDHIANA:A 22-year-old man drowned in Sidhwan Canal on Friday evening while taking a dip on their way back home.

A 22-year-old man drowned in Sidhwan Canal on Friday evening while taking a dip on their way back home. He has been identified as Inderjeet Singh, a resident of Tussa village in the district.

Inderjeet, along with his friends Mandip Singh and Mandeep, had gone to pay obeisance at some religious place in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. On Friday evening, they were returning home. They stopped at BRS Nagar near the railway lines to take a bath in the canal.

The three friends jumped into the canal. Inderjeet lost his balance and was swept away by the current. His friends raised an alarm and also informed the police. Howevere, they could not save him. Five hours after the incident, Inderjeet’s body was found near Badewal. The police got the body removed and handed it over the deceased’s family.

Suspecting no foul play, inquest proceedings under Section 174, CrPC, were initiated by the police.
