Jagraon: The Jagraon police have arrested a man for allegedly raping his own minor daughter and threatening her. The accused, Ran Bahadur, is a native of Gopala village in Nepal, and was residing at Atam Nagar locality of Jagraon. The matter came to light when the Class IX student told her mother and schoolteacher about the incident, following which they lodged a complaint against the accused.

Investigating officer ASI Tarsem Lal said the police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC and Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act, 2012, and arrested him. The victim’s mother said her husband was physically abusing their 14-year-old daughter for the past some time and used to threaten her that he would kill the entire family if she revealed the truth to anyone.

However, the girl gathered strength and revealed the matter before her schoolteacher and mother after her father forcibly raped her again last night. They approached the police and lodged a complaint. ASI Tarsem Singh said the medical examination of the victim confirmed that she was raped. We have arrested the accused after registering a case against him, he said.
