Ludhiana, August 16

Tension prevailed on Gill road in the Shimlapuri area after two groups clashed with each other today. The situation turned ugly when a man fired into the air. Around four persons suffered injuries in the clash and they were admitted to Lord Mahavir Civil Hospital.

The police have launched investigation into the matter. Old rivalry is cited as the reason for the clash, which took place at a car-wash station on the Gill road.

Surinder Singh of Janta Nagar, father of an injured youth, alleged that his son was attacked with swords and sticks by the relatives of a former councillor. When he reached the spot, he was also attacked, following which he fired into the air in self-defence, he said.

He said his two sons suffered injuries. The attackers were once his son’s friends. They later developed rivalry over some matter. He said the attackers were the relatives of a former Akali councillor.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP)

Sandeep Garg said two groups clashed over old rivalry. The injured were admitted to Civil Hospital. However, no person was injured due to firing. He said the matter was under investigation and they would take action after recording the statement of both groups. They have not received any formal complaint as both groups were at Civil Hospital for a medical examination.
