LUDHIANA: A man posing as a bank employee fraudulently withdrew cash from bank account of the resident.

A man posing as a bank employee fraudulently withdrew cash from bank account of the resident. After registering a case, the police have launched a probe in this connection.

Complainant Davinder Kaur, a resident of Surjit Colony on the Rahon road, stated to the police that on April 16, she visited the ATM of Punjab National Bank, situated on the Rahon road, to withdraw cash.

“When I was trying to withdraw cash, some error kept cropping up in the ATM. A man standing behind me introduced himself as a bank employee and offered to help me. The moment I handed him my ATM card for help, he fled,” the victim told the police. “Then on April 18, I was shocked to see a message on my phone regarding the withdrawal of Rs 64,000 cash from my account,” she added.

The police is scrutinising the CCTV camera footage of the ATM room to identify the accused. Investigating officer, ASI Sukhdev Singh, said a probe had been initiated to nab culprits.

Woman loses Rs 35,000 in cyber fraud

In a separate incident, a woman lost Rs 35,000 in cyber fraud case. Complainant Meena Rani, a resident of Subash Nagar, told the police that on April 18, some cyber crooks withdrew Rs 35,000 from her bank account. The police suspect that cyber criminals could have done it by preparing a clone of the victim’s ATM card. 

16 lose money to fraudsters

Notably, as many as 16 people lost amount running into lakhs in a cyber fraud recently. The money was withdrawn from ATMs in Delhi. Although the police registered an FIR against unknown employees of Axis Bank and Hitachi Company, yet no arrest had been made in the case so far.
