Ludhiana, June 16

The Municipal Corporation has been accused of harming trees by building a concrete surface at the King Palace road verge in Sundar Nagar.

Residents said due to the concrete surface, the source of watering plants has been sealed at the road verge.

They want the civic body to remove the concrete portion from the central verge, so that trees can be saved.

Arvind Sharma, a resident, said: “When I crossed Sundar Nagar, I saw that the road verge was being surfaced with a cemented layer. On the one hand the government promotes planting saplings to reduce pollution, on the other, the MC is harming trees by making a concrete surface at the centre verge. The civic body should remove the concrete surface to save the trees as soon as possible.”

MC’s Executive Engineer Teerath Bansal said they have instructed the contractor concerned to break down the concrete surface around the trees. Area residents want that tiles be placed at the centre verge so that nobody dumps garbage there.
