Ludhiana, January 4
Without ‘giving’ any prior notice, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has reduced water supply duration in several parts of the city. The MC has imposed up to three-hour cut in water supply a day in several areas.
It was learnt that no official announcement has been made in this regard.
A resident of the Kailash Chowk area said: “Duration of water supply in our area has been reduced by three hours a day. We were not given any prior information in this regard. If the MC had to reduce duration of water supply, it should have given prior information to us.”
Sources in the MC said the duration of water supply had also been reduced in various other areas that fall in different zones of the MC.
Sub-divisional Officer (SDO) Anshul Garcha admitted the duration of water supply had been reduced. “We are supplying water as per demand of public. If we supply water more than the requirement, water goes waste and also pipes burst. Now, water supply has been reduced by one hour each during morning, afternoon and evening in the areas under my charge.”
Superintending Engineer Ravinder Garg said there was no such official announcement to reduce the duration of water supply.
Superintending Engineer Rajinder Singh said: “In some areas, where a large number of ‘vehras’ are located, water is being supplied for 10 hours a day while it is supplied for 7-8 hours in other areas as per demand.” — TNS
