Ludhiana, March 19

With receipt of notification regarding elected councillors, the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, has started further process. Now, the Divisional Commissioner, Patiala, will administer the oath to newly elected councillors. However, the date for swearing-in is yet to be finalised.

Municipal Commissioner Jaskiran Singh said House of the Municipal Corporation is likely to be formed by March 28 as they had received the notification. House is required to be formed within 30 days of receipt of notification.

As the results of the MC elections were declared on February 27, the councillors had been eagerly waiting for this notification.

The Congress has swept the civic body elections with winning 62 seats out of a total of 95 wards of the corporation. The party is yet to decide the name of mayor.

A newly elected councillor said: “House should be formed at the earliest as the government has now issued the notification. We can raise issues concerning people only at the House. The next financial year will start from April 1. Thus, there is a need to hold discussions on the annual budget of MC for 2018-19. The process for formation of House should not be delayed anymore.”
