MC staff protest unpaid salaries

Ludhiana, February 21

Members of Municipal Karamchari Sayunkt Committee staged a protest today at the MC’s Zone ‘A’ office against non-payment of salaries. Vijay Kumar, a member of the association, rued the employees had been paid last month’ salary. “Several employees have to pay loan installments. It has become difficult to make ends meet as they have not been paid,” he said.

An employee said, “Around 9,000 employees have not received salary for the month of January. As many as 7,000 contractual employees are paid Rs 7400 every month. They are suffering even more as their monthly income is low. The pension of retired employees has also been delayed.” The protesting employees announced hold a protest at MC’s Zone D office on Friday, if their salaries were not released.

An MC official said the salaries had been delayed as the civic body had not received its share of GST funds from the government.
