A large number of residents of Jagraon, led by Aam Aadmi Party MLA, Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, staged a protest against utterly bad condition of Raikot Road in the city.

The protesting residents raised slogans against the state government for failing to improve the condition of the road which has been in shambles since a long time.

Jagraon MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke said Raikot Road was one of the busiest roads of the city which connected several villages and cities like Raikot, Barnala and others with Jagraon.

MLA Menuke had said some time ago that if the local administration failed to improve the condition of the road in near future, she would stage a protest.

“Several prominent places including some hospitals, banks and educational institutions are also located on this road due to which a lot of traffic remains on this road throughout the day. Sanmati Government College of Science Education and Research, two government schools, two private schools and some banks are also located on this road. The students and the teachers of Science College often complain of facing a lot of problems while traveling on this road,” said Pritam Singh Akhara, a local leader.

Jagraon SDM Ram Singh also reached the spot and spoke to the protestors. He tried to convince the protestors to lift the dharna but the protestors were adamant to continue protest till a written assurance was given by the administration. However, the protestors ended the dharna after SDM Ram Singh assured that the construction work to improve the condition of this road would be started within one week.
