Burglars struck at a mobile showroom at Ghumar Mandi last night and took away mobile phones worth more than Rs 18 lakh.

Jawahar Narang, owner of the showroom, said he put up shutters of his shop, Shri Narang Electronics, at Ghumar Mandi at around 9.45 pm last evening.

“This morning, the owner of the shop next to mine informed me that the locks of the shutter were lying broken. I reached the spot and found the entire shop ransacked. The thieves decamped with 31 mobile phones of various brands worth Rs 18 lakh,” he added.

He said four CCTV cameras had been installed at his shop. But the thieves also took away the recorder of the cameras. However, the police said the thieves were captured on the CCTV cameras installed at the nearby shops. Footage shows six or seven suspected persons roaming around near the mobile showroom.

The police have registered a case against unknown person and launched investigation.

In similar burglaries on Sunday night, the thieves had stolen about Rs 8 lakh in cash and valuables from two stores in Model Town and Sahnewal.
