Ludhiana, March 19

A student, Mohak Agarwal (25) of first year at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Secunderabad, Telengana, was found dead on March 10. The parents of the deceased, who was a resident of Ludhiana city, suspect a well-planned murder conspiracy behind his death.

The parents have sought intervention of the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, and want him to take up the matter with his Telengana counterpart. They have sought a high-level probe into Mohak’s death.

Sunil Agarwal, the deceased’s father, said on March 10, he got a call from the college officials, who informed him about the tragic death of his son. The authorities told him that Mohak was throwing his birthday party at some friend’s flat outside the college campus and stayed there for the night. They had liquor and Mohak was out of his senses. He, along with his friends, slept on the water tank of the five-storey building from where he accidentally fell off and died.

The parents today listed several loopholes in the case and sought intense investigation into the case.

Dr Astha Agarwal, the deceased’s sister, said: “We have been told a fake story by the college administration. It is to be noted that no neighbour heard the sound except the watchman. Thus, how can a student living in the hostel get out at night without the knowledge of the college authorities? Why did not they inform the parents? Also, the water tank has sufficient space not even for one person to sleep on it, then how could three persons sleep there?”

She alleged Mohak had told his mother that he had given his birthday treat to his friends on March 3.

Sunil Agarwal said: “Only the screen guard of Mohak’s mobile phone was damaged even though it is said he fell from the rooftop of the five-storey building. The display of the phone was working.

The postmortem report has revealed massive fractures in the left hip and buttocks. Video footage revealed that the mobile was in the left pocket of his trouser. All other friends were in night wear. Why is he only wearing formal shirt and trousers?”

She said Mohak had weak eyes and he used to wear spectacles but those were found neither in the flat nor near the water tank.

Levelling more allegations against the institute, the relatives said: “The management took two hours to inform the parents.

Why the delay? We are at a loss to understand that there were no CCTV cameras in such a reputed college and hostel. The college management asked the students to keep their mouth shut about the whole incident.”

Dr Astha Agarwal alleged a civilian was allowed to touch the body and take out his mobile phone from the pocket in the presence of the police? The primary report of postmortem showed presence of no alcohol in the body, she asserted.

The deceased’s family said: “We suspect the role of Mohak’s classmates behind his well-planned murder.”

The parents have demanded an inquiry by a special investigation team of the Telangana State Police, headed by DGP of Telangana Anurag Sharma
