Ludhiana, March 22

Jaskiran Singh today took over as Municipal Commissioner here today. He was warmly welcomed by the MC staff at the Zone D office.

Talking to The Tribune, Jaskiran said since maximum complaints in the city were regarding illegal buildings, he would constitute committees, which would look into the zones, and for any kind of building violation, they would be held responsible.

The MC chief said he would carry forward the flagship projects such as Smart City, AMRUT and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with utter sincerity.

“I want to bring improvement in the lives of people living in slum areas. They should be given basic amenities. We will focus on general cleanliness,” said Jaskiran, who has also served in the Army.

On being asked why the MC was seen as a den of corruption, he said after settling down, he would take help from the the Vigilance Department, Local Bodies, to curb the menace. “I will start conducting surprise checks soon,” he said.

He also requested the residents to help in improving the city being responsible citizens.
