No respite in sight for rail passengers

LUDHIANA: With adverse weather conditions persisting in the region, there seems to be no respite for rail passengers in the near future.

With adverse weather conditions persisting in the region, there seems to be no respite for rail passengers in the near future. The railways cancelled four trains for the day, 13 were rescheduled, while most of the long-route mail, superfast and express trains were running behind schedule.

Rail traffic between New Delhi and various destinations in Punjab also remained disturbed with most trains running late by half an hour to three hours throwing travel plans of passengers out of gear.

Travellers to and from New Delhi suffered inconvenience as the 12459 New Delhi-Amritsar Intercity Express and 14682 Jalandhar-New Delhi Intercity Express were running late even beyond their delayed rescheduled departure by two to three hours, while 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express, 14681 New Delhi-Jalandhar Intercity Express, both Shatabdi Express trains on this section (12029 and 12014), along with 12497 New Delhi-Amritsar Shan-e-Punjab were delayed by half an hour to an hour.

Officials said, 12414 Jammu-Ajmer Pooja Superfast Express, 14674 Amritsar-Jaynanagr Shheed Express, 15209 Saharsa-Amritsar Jansewa Express and 15210 Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa Express were cancelled. The rescheduled trains were 12053 Haridwar-Amritsar Janshatabdi Express (2.30 hrs), 12054 Amritsar-Haridwar Janshatabdi Express (2.55 hrs), 12238 Jammu-Varansai Begumpura Express (3.30 hrs), 12380 Amritsar-Sealdah Jallinwala Bagh Express (1.35 hrs), 12413 Ajmer-Jammu Pooja Superfast Express (3 hrs), 12459 New Delhi-Amritsar Intercity Express (2.35 hrs), 12491 Barauni-Jammu Maur-Dhwaj Express (4 hrs), 14610 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Rishikesh Hemkunt Express (1.40 hrs), 14649 Jaynagar-Amritsar Saryu-Yamuna Express (3.15 hrs), 14682 Jalandhar-New Delhi Intercity Express (1.05 hrs), 18238 Amritsar-Bilaspur Chhattisgarh (4.20 hrs), 22424 Amritsar-Gorakhpur Superfast Express (5.10 hrs) and 22432 Udhampur-Allahabad Weekly Express (4.45 hrs).
