The Health Department has tightened its noose around government departments and is conducting regular checks to ascertain the presence of mosquito larvae in various offices.

The department recently conducted a check at the DC office and larvae were found at the Excise and Taxation Department. Not only this, the Punjab Roadways workshop was checked, where larvae was present.

“We conduct checks at the houses and private establishments. Why spare the government offices then? Recently, larvae were found at the Excise and Taxation office and Punjab Roadways workshop and apart from giving a strict warning, a fine was imposed on both departments. Issuing fine is in the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation and both departments were fined on Monday by the MC,” said Dr Ramesh.

He said this is the time to curtail breeding of mosquitoes. Till now, no case of dengue or chikungunya has been reported, but one needs to be careful.

“We are urging people to observe ‘dry day’ every Friday and clean water coolers, flower pots and flower vases. One should not let water stagnate in and around the houses and the space behind curtains should also be cleaned as mosquitoes hide in dark places,” he said.

He said they would continue with their drive and conduct checks in the coming days.
