One booked for illegal sand mining

LUDHIANA: The police have booked a man on the charge of stealing sand from the Sutlej riverbed.

The police have booked a man on the charge of stealing sand from the Sutlej riverbed. The police had stopped a tractor near the Mangli Khas bus stand on Rahon road. On checking, it was found that the tractor was full of illegally-mined sand. The accused has been identified as Monu of Meharban. He has been booked under Section 21 of the Mining Act.

Gang of thieves busted

The police claimed to have busted a gang of thieves. The Sub-Inspector from Division No 1 said they had received a tip-off that the gang was planning a theft near the Jagraon Bridge area. He said a team reached the spot and nabbed the gang and recovered a stolen motorcycle, two swords, a dagger, a knife and a rod. The accused have been identified as Parmod of Shimlapur, Vikas Pandey of Jassiyan Road, Akash of New Manthopur, Satish Kumar of Madhopuri, Mohamman Farvez of New Madhopuri. The accused have been booked under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC.

Drugs recovered

The police had carried out a check on suspicion and seized 440 tablets and 290 capsules from two persons. The accuse have been identified as Aman Sharma of Bhamia village and Jagdish Kumar of Tajpur Road. A case under Sections 22-61-85 of the NDPS Act has been registered.

Man nabbed with 5-kg poppy husk

A man has been arrested with poppy husk. The accused has been identified as Ravinder Singh of Lalton Khurd village. The police had checked Ravindr Singh’s Activa on suspicion near Ganda Nullah and recovered 5-kg poppy husk. The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act. Meanwhile, the Sahnewal police held a man with 3-gm heroin. The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act against the accused — Khushdeep Singh of Sahnewal colony.

Immigration fraud

Five persons have been booked on the charge of cheating and conspiracy on the complaint of Manpreet Singh of Ram Nagar area. He told the police that the accused took Rs 4 lakh from him in lieu of sending him to the US, but they neither send the complainant nor returned his money. The accused have been identified as Jaspreet Singh, Gurpreet Kaur, Kanwaljit Kaur of Shimlapuri, Preesjot Singh of New Azad Nagar and Ruby of England.

Factory manager booked for yarn theft

A manager of a yarn factory was nabbed on the charge of stealing the yarn. Amarjit Singh from Transport Nagar-based Bajaj Textiles said he found that 15-20 yarn sacks had been missing from the mill. When he carried out search for these, it came to light that the manager at the mill, along with other employees, had stolen the yarn. The police recovered 13.35-quintal yarn from the accused — Rajesh Kumar of Puneet Nagar, Mukrar of Mayapuri and Sajid of Bijnaur, UP. The accused have been booked under Sections 381 (theft by servant) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

Men held for gambling

Three persons have been booked on the charge of illegal mining. The police caught them red-handed at shops in the Dhandari Kalan area and recovered Rs 29,330. The accused have been identified as Ashwani Kumar of Hargobind Marg, Amrit Pal of Chauri Sadak area, Jagjit Singh of Doraha. The accused have been booked under Section 13-3-67 of the Gambling Act.
