Ludhiana, February 19
The police have arrested Gurinderjit Singh, alias Goldi, son of Gulzar Singh Grewal, a resident of Mehmoodpura village, who was among those who fired shots at Himmat Singh Nagar in the Dugri area during a gang war on February 9. Kiranpal Singh, alias Kala, was critically injured in the shooting. He is undergoing treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here.
The police nabbed Goldi at a “naka”. They are grilling him to know the whereabouts of his three accomplices, including gangster Sukha Barewalia.
In broad daylight on February 9, Sukha Barewalia, along with three of his accomplices, reached the workshop of Kala. When Kala came out of the workshop, they shot at him, inuring him seriously. Before leaving the workshop, Barewalia and his accomplices fired shots into the air and damaged Kala’s car. Kala had an old rivalry with Barewalia.
Barewalia is a habitual offender in police records. Earlier also, he was arrested with a country-made pistol and narcotic powder in June 2016. He had suffered a bullet injury when he was attacked by one of his friends in Manakwal in May last. But he reached a compromise with the friend. Around two dozen cases of loot, snatching and assault have been registered against Barewalia at police stations here.
