Ludhiana: Three PhD students from the department of plant pathology, PAU, brought laurels to the university as they were awarded at the national level. Sumit Kumar Aggarwal, working on the mapping of sheath blight resistance in rice, has been selected as a scientist by the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, New Delhi. He secured the fifth rank in ARS-2016. Manmohan Dhkal, working on management of cucurbit viruses, and Harpreet Singh, working on wheat rust pathogen, have been awarded the prestigious INSPIRE fellowship by the Department of Science and Technology. The award carries a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000 and an annual contingency of Rs 20,000.
Kisan mela at Gurdaspur on Mar 14
The Punjab Agricultural University will showcase its latest farm technologies for ensuing Kharif crops and the standing Rabi crops at the Regional Research Station, Gurdaspur, on March 14. This year’s theme, “Let’s reduce the cost of farming; use water and fertilisers wisely; and make farming profitable with subsidiary business” is aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture. Farmers can take a look at the demonstration plots of Rabi crops and exhibitions displayed by various departments. Additionally, they will have a platform to interact with the representatives of PAU departments to dispel their apprehensions and get information on useful technology aids. — TNS
