Police release sketch of carjacking accused

Ludhiana, March 22

Day after a local realtor was robbed of his car in the Ghumar Mandi area, near the residence of DIG of Ludhiana Range SK Kalia, the city police today released the sketch of one of the accused.

A police team, led by ACP West Varinderjit Singh, has reportedly scanned more than a dozen CCTV footage procured from separate areas of the city.

Sources said the stolen car, a white-coloured Volkswagen Passat, and Swift of carjackers with temporary number ‘8604’ were spotted in footage.

The ACP said CCTV footage procured from separate areas was scanned by the police, yet nothing concrete was found. “Although we spotted the stolen car as well as that of the carjackers in footage, it will be a tough investigation until we could identify the exact route taken by the carjackers to flee. Our teams have been working round the clock to crack the case,” he added.

The source said the phone of the car owner was also snatched by the carjackers. When the police put it on surveillance, it was found that the carjackers had switched it off a few minutes after stealing the car. 

Victim’s friend quizzed

Sources said the CIA wing quizzed a friend of the realtor on Wednesday.
