“Next govt shouldn''t be indifferent”

The Punjab Government functions like a feudal government instead of working for the people, which must change after the next elections.

The Punjab Government functions like a feudal government instead of working for the people, which must change after the next elections. Punjab has a host of problems such as unemployment, lack of infrastructure, pollution, among several others. There are hardly any government jobs. There is just a facade that the downtrodden have been uplifted as they continue to suffer. The gap between the rich and the poor continues to increase. Instead of promoting sustainable agriculture, governments earlier have been providing free power and water, which is leading to water crisis. Political parties are promising free atta dal, and now even tea, but the government should instead enable and empower people to make a good living themselves rather than treating people like beggars. — Parvinder Kumar

Jobs must be created. It has been an issue, and the government announced jobs only during the fag end of their term. Job opportunities and skill development must be provided on a regular basis and not just to appease voters before elections. — Jaskaran Singh

There are hardly any policies for the betterment of labourers working in factories. They spend eight to 10 years on a paltry salary and then are sacked any time. Free power and water to farmers is depleting ground water, but political parties continue to promise these during the next government, which should not be done. The level of education in government schools continues to be poor.  — Durgesh Rai

Traffic and pollution have become a perennial problem in the city. Being an important industrial town, it is the responsibility of the state to resolve this issue here and in other parts of the state as well. Jobs are given only when elections are near. The government must make policies to improve health and education. — Abhinav Bhatt

Punjab used to lead in sports and producing good sportspersons, but owing to the lack of attention by the government, Haryana has gone ahead in the field now. The next government must focus on planning and creating infrastructure and training at international level to take Punjab to its sporting glory again. There is no lack of talent here and all that youngsters need is facilities, training and opportunity. — Sandeep Singh
