LUDHIANA: Enforcement staff of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has stepped up its drive to curb the menace of power theft which is a huge drain on the revenue of the power utility.

Enforcement staff of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has stepped up its drive to curb the menace of power theft which is a huge drain on the revenue of the power utility.

During a special campaign here on Tuesday, a 19-member team of enforcement officials conducted a spot check at 136 consumers from all categories in different parts of the city and detected 12 cases of theft, overload or unauthorised use of electricity. Recovery notices for a penalty of Rs 13.89 lakh were issued to the consumers on the spot.

In a related development, the field staff of enforcement wing of the PSPCL inspected premises and checked meters of more than 100 consumers across the city and caught eight consumers (mostly domestic) stealing power through kundi connections. A total penalty of Rs 3.53 lakh was imposed on them and cases were also got registered at the anti-power-theft police station.
