Ropar boys, Sangrur girls bag overall championship

LUDHIANA: Ropar and Sangrur districts accumulated as many as 26 points each to bag overall championship in the boys’ and girls’ sections, respectively, in the 63rd Punjab State Schools Inter-District Athletics Meet (U-17), which concluded at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

Ludhiana, October 15

Ropar and Sangrur districts accumulated as many as 26 points each to bag overall championship in the boys’ and girls’ sections, respectively, in the 63rd Punjab State Schools Inter-District Athletics Meet (U-17), which concluded at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

Athletes from Moga district secured 16 points to finish as runners up in the boys’ section while Nehru Garden Sports Wingh of Jalandhar gathered 16 points to secure second position in the girl’s section.

In the 4x100 metre relay race for girls, the quartet comprising Radha Rani, Pallavi Kumari, Sukhvir Kaur and Rashdeep Kaur, representing Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mehru Garden, Jalandhar, won gold medal.

The silver medal was bagged by athletes from Sports School, Gudha Wing, in Bathinda district, including Ritisha, Ramneet Kaur, Kuljeet Kaur and Balvinder Kaur. The third and fourth positions went to Baba Parmanand Maha Vidyalaya, Sangrur, and Royal Convent School, Moga, respectively.

Rupinder Singh Ravi, state organiser, and Sawarnjit Kaur, DEO, Ludhiana, were the chief guests on the concluding day of the games. Bikram Singh Bhanot, AEO, Inderpal Singh, AEO, Moga, Principal Amrik Singh, Principal Gurbakhshish Singh, Principal Harjit Ram, Principal Daljeet Singh and Principal Gurjant Singh were also present on the occasion. — OSC

  • Hammer throw: First Amandeep Kaur of Bhai Ghaniya Academy, Burj Dhilwan, second Khushneet Kaur of Dashmesh Public School, Farikdot, and third Paramdeep Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Bhasodh (Sangrur).
  • 3,000-m race: First Baljeet Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Bahadurgarh (Patiala), second Monika of Government Senior Secondary School, Dasuya (Hoshiarpur), and third Preeti of Dahmesh Senior Secondary School, Muktsar.
  • 800-m race: First Kiranjot Kaur of Hardam Singh Public School, Bhadson (Patiala), second Amandeep Kaur of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gal Kalan (Moga), and third Tanvir Kaur of Baba Parmanand Kendriya Maha Vidalaya, Nihal Singh Wala (Sangur).
  • 200-m race: First Chanveer Kaur of Guru Nanak Mission Public School, Dhalla, second Pavneet Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Paniar (Gurdaspur), and third Ritisha of Sports School, Gudha Wing (Bathinda).

Boys

  • 5,000-m race : First Ajay Kumar of Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Amritsar, second Amandeep Singh of Shree Arjan Dev Government Senior Secondary School, Amritsar, and third Bhupinder Singh of Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Faridkot.
  • 800-m race : First Manjot Singh of Guru Nanak Mission Public School, Bhogpur (Jalandhar), second Rohit Kamboj of Government Senior Secondary School, Gidharawali (Fazilka), and third Jagmohan Singh of State Sports School, Jalandhar.
  • 200-m race : First Sanam Singh of Guru Nanak Mission Public School, Dhall (Jalandhar), second Gurinder Singh of Royal Convent School, Nihal Singh Wala (Moga), and third Lovepreet Singh of Bhai Nand Lal Public School, Anandpur Sahib (Ropar).
  • Pole vault: First Jashanpreet Singh of Government Senior Secondary School, Mehmood Khera (Muktsar), second Avnish Kumar of Government Senior Secondary School, Khubad (Fazilka), and third Captainjeet Singh of Asian Youth School, Gurdaspur.
