SGPC member booked for abetting suicide goes missing

KHAMANO: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member, Avtar Singh Ria, a resident of Ria village, who was booked in a suicide case of a temporary employee of the committee, is missing along with his family.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member, Avtar Singh Ria, a resident of Ria village, who was booked in a suicide case of a temporary employee of the committee, is missing along with his family.

As per information, the SGPC president, Kirpal Singh Badungar, had formed a committee comprising Amarjit Singh Chawla and Baldev Singh Kiampuri, to look into the matter and give a report as soon as possible.

Karamjit Singh Bunti, an employee of the SGPC, posted at Gurdwara Sahib, Fatehgarh, and a resident of Verka, had complained to the SGPC president about Ria taking Rs 50,000 advance from him to got him a permanent job. As per information a deal was struck at Rs 2 lakh between the two. On his complaint Badungar had directed Ria to return Rs 50,000 to Bunti. Later, Bunti alleged that he was pressurised by Ria.

Bunti committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. He uploaded status on his Facebook account before suicide. Later, the police on the statement of Jatinder Singh, father of the deceased, registered a case against Avtar Singh Ria under Section 306, IPC.
