Residents of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, a colony developed by Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT), Pakhowal Road, here have raised a strong voice of protest against negligent attitude of the authorities towards pathetic condition of most of the main and feeder roads in the colony.

As a result, most of these roads have developed cracks, deep pot holes and eroded top surface which pose a threat to commuters in general and the residents in particular.

In a complaint to the LIT authorities, the residents of the E-Block said, the parking area in the main market of the block, main and feeder roads in the residential parts of this pocket lie in a state of total neglect. They said there had been no repair carried out in this part of the colony from a very long time.

“There have been quite a few road accidents involving children, women and senior citizens due to bad condition of the roads and streets,” said Arvind Sharma, a resident of this block and one of the signatories to the complaint.

The complaint further said gravel on most of the roads have become loose and most of the roads have become bumpy, particularly for the two-wheeler drivers and cyclists. Repeated representations made to the LIT officials in this regard have failed to evoke any positive response, said the area residents. The LIT officials said estimates were prepared for repair of the roads in the E- Block of the colony but these were not approved in time due to change of the government.

“Fresh estimates are being prepared and these will be sent to the Local Government Department for approval (which is mandatory) and the whole process can take a couple of months more,” says an official of the engineering branch of LIT.
