Ludhiana, June 24
After the inquiry report blamed rats for failure of a reinforced earth (RE) wall of the Gill Chowk flyover, the Shiv Sena Punjab installed a statue of ‘rat’ at the flyover on Sunday. They also gave a new name to the chowk, ‘Pehalwan Chuha’.
The party’s state chairman, Rajeev Tandon, said: “The report filed by the committee members has blamed rats for damaging the flyover wall. It means these rats are very strong as they damaged the wall, according to the report. To encourage the rats, we have given a new name to the Gill Chowk flyover. Now, ‘Pehalwan Chuha’ is the new name of the flyover.”
“Instead of finding the facts, the MC officials had put the entire blame on rats for the wall collapse on the night of May 13. Now, the committee, which conducted investigation, has also accused rats of damaging the wall. The inquiry report has given relief to the contractor as well as the MC officials concerned,” he said.
“A group of engineers claimed that the rats can’t damage the flyover wall. The builder and corrupt system is responsible for the wall collapse,” he said.
The members of the party asked the government to give a state-level award to the rats responsible for the wall collapse.
