Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 23
Office-bearers and activists of various social and medical organisations of the region launched a coordinated movement to impress upon the authorities concerned to simplify and rationalise the procedure for organ donation and transplant.
They demanded that secondary and tertiary-level hospitals should be authorised to retrieve hard and soft vital organs from bodies of donors.
The movement kicked off during concluding session of the seminar on “Awareness on organ donation”, organised by the local branch of the Rotary Club, at the Pohir road, near here on Saturday.
Dr Sunit Hind and assistant governor Avtar Krishan Sharma presided over the inaugural and concluding sessions, respectively. Transplant surgeon, Dr HRS Girn, was the keynote speaker on the occasion. Dr Rajinder Mittal and Dr Punit Dhawan participated in the interactive session.
The project convener, Dr Ravinder Sharma, said office-bearers of various organisations led by Municipal Council president Suraaj Mohammad and ex-chief Ravinder Puri had resolved to launch coordinated movement to make organ donation practically feasible for the family of prospective donors and recipients.
