In what may be seen as a misuse of ePunjab portal, six students of Government Senior Secondary School, Nasrali, were allegedly shifted to the Government School in Isru with the help of an online portal without the knowledge of the Nasrali school authorities. Kusum Taak, Principal of GSSS, Nasrali, said the names of students were struck off without their consent and they were not issued the leaving certificate.

She said: “I came to know from the class in-charge that the students have been shifted to the Isru school. I immediately informed the matter to the District Education Officer. We have to send an enrolment at the end of the month by tallying it from the ePunjab portal. This is similar to a case of cybercrime as any person can do anything without being noticed. We were unaware of shortage of students all this while. When we struck off the name of any student, we issue a school leaving certificate without which the student cannot get admission in another school. We also did not issue any transfer certificate of those children.”

The Principal of GSSS Isru, Lovely Saluja, said: “It is the student’s choice wherever he wants to study. The students of Nasrali have been coming to us since April 5. When the school did not issue them the transfer certificate, we had to send them back to the old school.”

A teacher said: “Isru school has admitted students without their school leaving certificates which is against the norms. Nowadays, Aadhaar card is linked with student’s details on the portal, so that one student can study at one school only. Earlier, there used to be a duplication of names. The online portal ePunjab was formed to remove the replication and to trace a child. Due to rationalisation policy, many schools are worried about surplus of posts. The students could have been shifted deceitfully to increase the strength.”

Vishal, MIS co-ordinator, explains that generally, when a student leaves, the school has to delete his or her name from the portal. No school can shift students to its school without the login id details of another school that is secretive.”

Meanwhile, Aashish Sharma, Deputy DEO, said: “The matter came to us a couple of days ago. We are yet to hear the version of both principals. We will inquire into the matter on Monday.”
