Snatchers held with 8 mobiles

Ludhiana: The police have nabbed two snatchers and recovered eight stolen mobile phones, one motorcycle and a gas cylinder from them. The snatchers have been identified as Paramvir Singh of Ambedkar Nagar and Tarandeep Singh of Shivaji Nagar. The police said during a routine checking near the Vardhman chowk, two bike-borne persons were signalled to stop. A search of their belongings yielded the stolen mobile phones. TNS

Sales Tax survey at ‘Motor-Trader’

Ludhiana: The mobile wing of the Sales Tax Department on Tuesday conducted a survey at “Motor-Trader” on GT Road near Dholewal Chowk. The team, comprising four officials, conducted the survey under the supervision of HPS Ghotra.  Ghotra said the survey was conducted after getting permission from the headquarters. “We have got documents and other such material. We are further investigating the matter. Calculations of tax evasion will soon be done by the department,” said the official. TNS

16 food samples collected 

Ludhiana: The Health Department’s team collected 16 food samples in the last two days. A laddoo sample was collected from a sweet shop on Jamalpur. A sample of vanilla ice-cream, chocolate ice-cream, strawberry ice-cream and choco bar was taken from ice-cream factory in Bhamia Jalan, Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana. The factory was found running in unhygienic conditions, no filtered water was being used for making ice-candies, there was no pest control system, expired artificial colours were used and no food management system plan was there. The health team destroyed the artificial flavours on the spot. Improvement notice was given to the factory owner, said District Health Officer Dr Andesh Kang. Meanwhile, samples of milk ,jalapeño cheesy sauce, carbonated water was collected from Sudhar on Monday. Samples of curd, milk were collected from a dairy in Raikot. Gravy, milk, curd samples were taken from a restaurant in Raikot. Sample of milk was taken from a food outlet in Raikot. Packaged drinking water and club soda samples were also taken from Raikot. 

2 booked for misbehaving with cop

The Shimlapuri police have registered an FIR against two brothers, who own a cycle parts manufacturing factory, for misbehaving with the police. The accused have been identified as Harman Singh and Gurpreet Singh of Chet Singh Nagar. SHO Ravi Kumar said a case under Sections 353 and 186 the IPC was registered against the accused. Complainant Head Constable said he was present at the naka with other cops, when the car of the accused collided with some vehicle on the road. Both of them misbehaved with the police on the plea that the police deliberately let the other car go from the spot. One of the guys was also claiming himself as the member of some human rights group. They spoke rudely with Ravi, an SHO, over phone, following which the police have registered an FIR.

Mother, 2 children go missing

A woman and her two children went missing under mysterious circumstances. Complainant Jagwinder Singh of Lalto Kalan told the police that he got married to Gurpreet Kaur. They have two children — daughter Binpreet Kaur (8) and son Lovepret Kaur. On April 13, they went to the market but did not return. He suspects that the trio could have been kept under illegal confinement by some unknown person. The police have launched a manhunt.

Drug peddler arrested 

The CIA wing nabbed a drug peddler and recovered 300-gram ganja from him. The accused has been identified as Uma of Vishkarma Colony. The police said acting on a tip-off, a naka was laid at Sherpur Chowk, where on suspicion, a pedestrian was stopped for checking which led to the recovery of narcotics. 

Four booked for thrashing man

The PAU police have registered a case against four persons including Charadeep Singh Channi, Gurmukh Singh and two unidentified persons for attacking and tossing the turban of a handicapped person. Complainant Vikramjit Singh of Shere-e-Punjab Nagar, who owns a Sandhu dairy on Hambran Road, told the police that on April 13, he was heading home on his car, when he was cornered by Channi and his three aides near the Circuit House. “I was badly beaten up by the accused, my turban was tossed and I was also dragged from my hair. It was only when I raised an alarm and passersby gathered that the assailants fled. Then the police were called,” Singh said. Channi attacked him because of the ongoing court case pending against him which was filed by them in the court, he said. Earlier when he asked the PAU police to register a case, the cops hinted that a cross case would be registered. Later, he met the Police Commissioner, following which a case was registered against the accused. IO Richard Masih said the accused were yet to be arrested.— TNS
