Soldier from Ludhiana village killed in Rajouri landmine blast

Mandi Ahmedgarh, Jan 18

Only son and brother of six sisters from a Doabia family of Ramgarh Sardaran village of Ludhiana district, Agniveer Ajai Singh was killed in a landmine blast in the Naushera Sector in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

After joining the armed forces under the Agniveer Scheme on January 23, 2023, Ajai had visited his village for the holidays about six months ago.

During his stay at the village, he had acted as an ambassador for the Union Government’s Agniveer Scheme and enthused members of his family and friends by narrating an unending series of episodes on the Indo-Pak border.

Though the official information in this regard is yet to be released by the administration, sources informed that Ajai was on routine patrolling along with his two companions when a mine blast occurred. All three injured were shifted to the base camp hospital at Udhampur where doctors declared Ajai dead. Subedar Dharminder Singh and sepoy Balwant Singh were injured during the blast.

His father Charanjit Singh Kala and other family members went into shock on learning the news late in the evening. The body of the martyr will be cremated with state honours on his arrival at the village on Friday.

Payal SDM Poonampreet Kaur said civil personnel had been deployed to provide every possible help to the aggrieved family.
