LUDHIANA: Spectators enjoyed the proceedings on the second and penultimate day of the 31st sports festival, popularly known as Modern Rural Mini-Olympics, at Jarkhar village, 15 km from here, on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road today.

Spectators enjoyed the proceedings on the second and penultimate day of the 31st sports festival, popularly known as Modern Rural Mini-Olympics, at Jarkhar village, 15 km from here, on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road today.

Ankit Bansal, OSD, Punjab CM, along with former MLA Darshan Singh Shivalik, Harvir Singh Ayali, Bhai Surjit Singh Sahnewal, chief sewadar, Sangat Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Narinder Pal Singh Sidhu, chairman, Mata Sahib Kaur Sports and Charitable Trust, Jagwinder Singh Mohi, Master Ujjagar Singh Sarihn were the guests of honour today.

Ankit Bansal assured organisers to apprise the CM of difficulties being faced in running the academy at Jarkhar village and help them to meet their demands.

Meanwhile, Sahil of Ludhiana came out triumphant in massed start cycling competition held in the memory of Baba Surjan Singh Sarihn. Harjit Singh Pannu of Ludhiana and Nikhil Sharma from Delhi secured the second and third positions, respectively.

Results

Hockey (girls): UCO Bank, Delhi, beat Ludhiana Hockey Centre 2-0; Shahbad Markanda beat Badal Wing of Muktsar 3-0 to enter the semi-finals.

Hockey (junior boys): Farzino Hockey Academy of California beat Ghwadi School 9-0; Prithipal XI beat Dolan Academy 5-2; Ludhiana beat Kila Raipur 4-1; Dolan Academy beat Jarkhar Academy 3-1.

Hockey (men): Kila Raipur beat PSPCL, Patiala, 4-2; Farzino Club beat Army XI 4-2 to qualify for the semi-finals.

Kabaddi (75-kg): Sangehan beat Sihar 23-21 to emerge as winners.

Basketball (boys): Punjab Police beat Gymkhana Club, Ludhiana, 50-25; Ludhiana Academy beat Rakh Bagh Club 40-20.

Basketball (girls): Government Girls College, Ludhiana, beat Khalsa Club 21-17; Guru Nanak Club, Ludhiana, beat Punjab XI 23-16.
