The 14th Annual Athletics Meet of the Punjab College of Technical Education (PCTE) was held at its campus on the Ludhiana-Jagraon Road here today.
Deepinder Kaur Sekhon, a student of MBA II, and Manmeet Singh of BCA I excelled in the track and field events in the girls and boys category, respectively.
The trophy of the event was bagged by the students representing B Pharmacy (IV year). Around 700 students took part in various sports disciplines, besides fun games during this meet.
The playing ground of the PCTE Group of Institutes was filled with excitement as students and faculty celebrated their annual sports day.
The day began with a march-past followed by the oath-taking ceremony.
In the 400-m race for girls, Deepinder Kaur Sekhon secured the first position, while Kirandeep Kaur of BSc II was second and Dechen Choki (BSc-II) was third.
In the boys’ category, Manmeet Singh bagged the top honours. He was followed by Jatin Soni of (BCom III) and Eric of B Pharmacy (IV) at the second and third position, respectively.
In the long jump (boys), Jatin Soni won the event, while Karanbir of MBA I was second and Avneet Kalra of BCom I was third.
In the girls’ section, the first three positions were won by Deepinder Sekhon, Bhawna Sharma of ATHM II and Sylvia of BBA III, respectively.
Jagdeesh of MBA II won the first position in the shot-put event for boys and Jaskaran of BCom III secured the second position while Sukhvir from the same class was third.
In the girls’ category, Sylvia won and Nimpin of ATHM I and Nima of BBA III were second and third, respectively.
In the 4x400-m relay race for boys, the quartet of BBA III emerged victorious, followed by BCom II and B Pharmacy IV teams at second and third spots, respectively.
Amitej Singh, Assistant Professor and in-charge of the college sports, said the college helped its students learn values of life through such event.
Addressing the students, Dr KNS Kang, Director General of the PCTE Group of Institutes, said events such as athletics meet helped in the mental and physical development of the students.
“Sports should be given as much importance as academics. At the PCTE, special emphasis is laid on this day, as it gives our students a chance to explore their innate talents and enjoy a healthy competition with each other,” Dr Kang said.
