Disappearance of bullock carts, the maiden event of the Kila Raipur Rural Sports Festival, could not dampen the spirit of spectators, who thronged the Grewal Sports Stadium here today.
Member of Parliament (MP) from Ludhiana Ravneet Bittu inaugurated the second day of the games. Appreciating the role of the organisers in promoting rural sports, Bittu announced a grant of Rs 20 lakh for the promotion of sports and development of the village.
The second day of the 79th edition of the rural sports festival saw various atypical events besides hockey and kabaddi matches, horse races, athletics, camel and horse show and martial arts.
Meanwhile, in Bhagwant Memorial Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, the Haryana team beat Kila Raipur, 3-1, Kila Raipur Academy defeated Sikandpur, 3-0, and Jarkhad Academy got better of Amloh Academy, 5-1.
The kabaddi team of Jand village overpowered Panj Garanyian, 20.5-14, while Lalton boys lost to Chhapar Kabaddi team, 15.5-7. The Baddowal team was defeated by Kurad Chhapa boys by a narrow margin of 20.5-19.
Tyre-rolling competition for veterans, finals of horse races and sprint by veterans are among the main attractions of the concluding day of the games tomorrow.
