STF ‘recovers’ 1-kg heroin; two arrested

The Special Task Force (STF) claimed to have arrested two persons and recovered 1-kg heroin from them.

The accused have been identified as Rajesh Kumar, alias Geja (40), and Vajinder Singh, alias Vicky (27), both residents of Doraha in Ludhiana district. A case under Sections 22-61-85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them at Moti Nagar Police Station.

STF Ludhiana unit in-charge Harbans Singh said: “When we were going towards a dental college in Moti Nagar, the accused were sitting in a park at Sector 39-A on Chandigarh Road. They started running after seeing the police, but were caught. We found 1-kg heroin from them.”

“During probe, we learnt that Rajesh used to work at Sabzi Mandi in Doraha, but was not working for the last 2-3 years. He is a drug addict. To run his house and arrange drugs for himself, he took to smuggling drugs. He is facing four cases, including attempt to murder and drug smuggling, at different police stations,” Harbans said.

“Vajinder used to work at a beekeeping unit. A case of drug smuggling was registered against him in 2017. After coming out of jail on bail a few months ago, he entered into the business of drug smuggling once again,” he said. Both accused, who are unmarried, used to purchase heroin from a Nigerian in Delhi at low rates and sell it at high rates to their customers, he said. The court sent them in police remand today.

Two held under NDPS Act

The division number 2 police have allegedly recovered 10-gram heroin from a man, who has been identified as Narinder Singh of Jamalpur, Ludhiana.

“After seeing the police check post, he tried to speed up his car that hit into a divider near the Ludhiana Civil Hospital. When searched, 10-gram heroin was recovered from him,” said Sub Inspector Mohan Lal.

“Narinder has been arrested and a case under Section 22-61-85 under the NDPS Act has been registered against him,” he said. In the second case, Salem Tabri police arrested Munish Verma of Jawand Vihar Colony, Ludhiana, with 10-gram heroin.
