Teachers accuse medical staff of undue pressure

The Measles-Rubella campaign has taken a toll on the teachers as they are finding it difficult to convince the parents for vaccinating their kids.

Hardev Singh Mullanpur, member of the Sanjha Adhayapak Morcha said that to achieve 100 per cent vaccination target, some of the medical teams were building undue pressure and creating panic among teachers.

“The members of these medical teams should not force the teachers into anything and they should be asked by the administration to check their behaviour,” he said.

He said that the medical teams should win the confidence of the parents by citing them facts but in reality they are developing undue pressure on teachers.

“All these pressure tactics adopted by the medical teams is actually making the teachers wary about the MR campaign instead of being enthusiastic,” he said.

Hardev Singh alleged that the medical teams at Government Senior Secondary School, Manupur, misbehaved with the teaching faculty.

Daljeet Samrala, another member of the Morcha said that 86 per cent of the vaccination has been done in the schools still unwanted pressure is being applied on teachers.

On Saturday the delegation of Sanjha Adhayapak Morcha submitted a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner, Development (ADC-D) in this regard.

District Immunisation Officer Dr Jasbir Singh said they are working really hard to make this drive successful but fail to get support from the parents. “We have been conducting meetings with the principals of the schools and asking them to convince the parents. In this particular school, the gates of the school were not opened for the medical team. We fail to understand why the parents are so scared of the vaccine. It is for the benefit of the children and even if one kid is left without vaccination, the entire drive will turn into a fiasco,” he said.
