LUDHIANA: The toilets made for the disabled persons at different platforms of Ludhiana railway station have been of little use. Ludhiana, April 8

The toilets made for the disabled persons at different platforms of Ludhiana railway station have been of little use. In fact, there is one toilet for the disabled at each platform of the local railway station, but the beneficiaries are not able to use all of these because the toilets at platform number 4-5 and 6-7 remain close for most of the time.

During a visit to the railway station, it was found that the toilets for the disabled persons at platform number 4-5 and 6-7 were locked. According to sources, these toilets remain closed for most of the time. “There is a toilet for the disabled persons at platform number 6-7, but it has been locked. I did not find it open for the last many days,” a daily commuter said.

The idea behind constructing toilets was to provide the facility to the disabled as it is not easy for a disabled person to go to other platform in case he needs to answer the call of nature. But as the toilets at platform number 4-5 and 6-7 remain locked for most of the time, persons with disability have no option but to move to other platforms to answer the call of nature. While doing so, passengers with disabilities have to face a lot of problems.

Ludhiana railway station Superintendent SK Salaria said nobody informed him about the issue. “I will look into the matter and make sure the toilets meant for the disabled persons remain open at all platforms,” he said.
