There was uproar and anger in the Noorwala Road area in the morning after torn pages of Gutka Sahib were found near a garbage dump on Street No. 4 of the Anandpuri area. The residents, who spotted the torn pages, were going to Gurdwara Sri Sukhmani Sahib situated at the end of the street.
The devotees checked the torn pages and soon found a bag containing five Gutka Sahibs (three of Nitnem and two of Sukhmani Sahib banis). The devotees collected all pages and the bag and took them to the gurdwara.
Granthi of the gurdwara Sukhwinder Singh announced about the sacrilege of Gutka Sahibs. All devotees went to the house near which Gutka Sahibs were found. The house owner, Amrik Singh, reportedly expressed ignorance about Gutka Sahibs. He said his tenant Harpreet Singh had shifted two days back. All of them went scouring for the tenant. Harpreet (26) conceded that Gutka Sahibs had been torn by his children, who are toddlers, in ignorance. The gurdwara management committee, along with the local residents, reported the incident to the police and handed over Harpreet to them.
The Jodhewal SHO, Inspector Gurwinder Singh, said the accused had been booked under Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC. Further investigation into the intent and reason for the incident is being carried out, he added.
