Traffic snarls all the way

LUDHIANA: Residents and commuters had to face traffic snarls in the city as various shobha yatras were taken out to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Valmiki today.

Residents and commuters had to face traffic snarls in the city as various shobha yatras were taken out to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Valmiki today. The shobha yatras were held by different organisations and these passed through the city areas from Ferozepur Road to Fountain Chowk as also interior parts of the city.

Long queues of vehicles stranded in traffic snarls were witnessed all over the city the entire day. In the evening, commuters had to face massive traffic jams at Fountain Chowk. The traffic police had to divert the vehicles to alternative routes. Many commuters took alternate routes passing through residential areas which was a terrible experience.

Starting from Fountain Chowk, there were traffic jams on the road originating from Bharat Nagar Chowk. The traffic was moving at a snail’s pace till around 8 pm.

Raghav, a resident going towards South City, said to pass through a small stretch of about half a kilometre, it took him more than 35 minutes. Secondly, there were not enough traffic policemen deployed at key points to regulate traffic. At Ghumar Mandi, too, long queues of vehicles were witnessed. There were traffic jams in the evening too. A shopkeepers said these were the festival days and the city was already witnessing huge rush. Today, the traffic movement was further disrupted due to shobha yatras.

  Meanwhile, to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Valmiki, various stalls were put up in the entire city. Members of the Valmiki Samaj distributed eatables to devotees. At Bhadaur House, the entire area was decorated with colourful lights to celebrate the occasion.
