Ludhiana: The city police have booked a travel agent for duping a resident of Rs 5 lakh. The accused has been identified as Sarabjit Singh. Complainant Jaswinder Singh told the police that he had signed an agreement with the accused, who had promised to send him to England. In lieu he paid Rs 5 lakh in advance to the accused. Till date, the accused failed to arrange visa for Jaswinder. Now, he also refused to return money to him. The police have launched further probe in the case. In a similar case, an accused identified as Sanjiv Kumar of Baldev Nagar cheated a Himachal Pradesh-based man. He duped the complainant of Rs 3.16 lakh on the pretext that he would arrange work permit in Malaysia for him. The accused is yet to be arrested by the police. TNS
One arrested with poppy husk
Ludhiana: The city police have nabbed a peddler and recovered 10 kg of poppy husk from his possession. The accused has been identified as Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Kehar Singh Nagar. The police said during a routine naka at Sangam Palace Chowk a pedestrian was stopped for checking. While searching his belongings narcotics were recovered. TNS
Woman duped of Rs 25 lakh
Ludhiana: The Saraba Nagar police have booked three persons identified as Ashmita Vasudev of BRS Nagar, Pankaj, alias Sahil, of Jalandhar bypass and Veena Vasudev of Prem Nagar in a fraud case. The complainant, Amritpal Kaur, stated to the police that the accused had coaxed her to invest Rs 25 lakh in some investment scheme. The accused had assured that she would get huge returns, but nothing happened. Now, the accused refused to return money to her. Ashmita and Pankaj have been arrested while Veena is still at large. TNS
