Ludhiana: Two bodies were found in the city on Tuesday, one in Sidhwan Canal and the other in the Sutlej.



Ludhiana: Two bodies were found in the city on Tuesday, one in Sidhwan Canal and the other in the Sutlej. The body found in the Sidhwan Canal, near the Barewal area, is of an elderly man. Passersby spotted the body and informed the police. The SHO of Daba, Inspector Gurbinder Singh, said a few persons saw the elderly man falling into the canal near the Daba area on Monday. There were no injury marks on the body, he added. In another case, the Meharban police found the body of a 16-year-old boy in the Sutlej. The deceased has been identified as Vinay Kumar of the Basti Jodhewal area. On Sunday, the boy had gone there to take a dip in the river. His body was taken out on Tuesday following information by some passerby. The Meharban police have started proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. TNS

10-yr jail for 2 in narcotics case

Ludhiana: The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Virinder Aggarwal has convicted Balkar Singh of Ward No: 56, Islamabad, Amritsar, and Sanjeev Kumar, alias Sanjay of Bhagat Singh colony, Khanna, on charges of possessing narcotics. They were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years each. A fine of Rs 1 lakh each was also imposed on them. The police had recovered 410-gm intoxicating powder from both accused. According to the prosecution, Sub-Inspector Baljinder Singh, along with a police party, was going towards the Khalsa School road. At about 5.15 pm, they reached behind the sheds of the grain market. On seeing the police party, the accused took a U-turn. The police apprehended them and their search yielded intoxicating powder. oc

Laundry worker found dead

Ludhiana: Roshan Lal (21) of Guru Ram Das Colony, Jamalpur, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his rented accommodation here on Monday night. Other tenants informed the police. Roshan Lal was a laundry worker at a private hospital on Brown Road. The Jamalpur police said no suicide note was recovered from the room. The police have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. TNS
