Ludhiana, September 25

The town planning wing of the Local Bodies Department has written to the Chief Vigilance Officer (Local Bodies Department) to take appropriate action as per the law against 10 illegal buildings coming up/constructed in Zone C. The letter clearly mentions that since the building inspector concerned did not take any action against these illegal buildings, the CVO should take action on its part.

An RTI activist, Simratpal Singh Kalsi, complained about these illegal buildings to the Director, Local Bodies, Chandigarh, on July 24. These 10 structures are commercial or industrial buildings.

Kalsi has filed yet another complaint against around six shops being constructed in the area at the “behest” of a senior SAD leader and former Cabinet Minister. The RTI activist said: “There are five or six shops coming up in the area, against which I had filed another complaint last week. But none of the officials from the building branch has visited the spot to date. As the owner of these shops is close to a SAD leader, he has started encroaching on the footpath to extend the shops. However, the building branch seems to have turned a blind eye to these encroachments”.
