Woman, girl crushed by trucks

A woman and a teenage girl were killed in separate accidents in the city yesterday.

In the first mishap, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck at Jodhewal Basti Chowk. According to the police, the injured, Tarawanti, was taken to Civil Hospital where she succumbed to injuries.

Tarawanti, along with his father and mother, was going to Shiv Mandir when the incident took place. On a complaint by the deceased’s father, Raju, a case under Section 279 and 304 A of the IPC has been registered against the truck driver. The driver, identified as Gurnam Singh of Gurdaspur district, has been arrested.

In another incident, a 38-year-old woman was killed in a similar accident near Sheetal Dharam Kanda, Meharban. Jaspal Singh and his wife Kulwant Kaur were returning home in Garhi Fazal village from Meharban Octroi when the bike they were riding was hit by a speeding truck.

Jaspal Singh told the police that the truck driver allegedly hit his bike due to which his wife fell down and got crushed under the left wheel of the truck. Investigation officer Prem Chand said the injured woman was taken to Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, where the doctors declared her dead on arrival.
