Woman’s body found

KHANNA: The body of an unidentified woman was found near here on Thursday. Sukhwinder Singh, investigating officer, said a policeman noticed stray dogs sniffing something. When he took a close look, he found a woman lying on the roadside at Ikolaha village and she seemed dead. Prima facie, the body seemed one-day old. There were no signs of rape or injury. There was a minor injury on the arm. She seemed to be between 25-30 years of age. The body has been kept in the mortuary for identification. OC

60-kg sweets destroyed 

Ludhiana: Under Tandarust Punjab mission, a team comprising District Health Officer Dr Andesh Kang, Food Safety Officer Yogesh Goyal raided Aman sweet shop located on the main road in Haibowal.  The team found unhygienic conditions at the workshop. Neither RO water plant was used in the production unit, nor cleanliness ensured. The team took three samples of milk cake, paneer and red chutney. They also destroyed 60 kg sweets lying in unhygienic condition. All samples were sent to public analyst. Action would be taken as per reports. 

Seminar on women safety

A seminar for women regarding women’s safety mobile application Shakti, PPsaanjh and Know your police was conducted at Government College by Saanjh Kendra West, Ludhiana in-charge Usha Rani along with the staff. The aim was to create awareness regarding personal safety and women’s empowerment among girls. In-charge at other Saanjh Kendras Inspector Ranjit Singh, Satinder Singh Gurm, Paramjit Rana, Amarjit Kaur delivered special lectures regarding prevention from illegal travel agents, drug abuse, cyber hygiene, victim relief, free legal aid and all time-bound services provided by Saanjh kendras. Inspector Ranjit said the women and children safety and anti-drug abuse drive was recently initiated by the Ludhiana Commissionerate for making women aware about the services being delivered by the police. 

Mining: Two trucks seized 

The Koom Kalan police have seized two trucks for mining mud. The driver/ truck owner, however, managed to give a slip to the police. Mining Officer Kewal Singh said a tip-off was received that mud was being illegally mined at Raipur Bait area. Accordingly, the mining team conducted a raid and recovered trucks laden with mud. The police said efforts were on to identify the truck owner.

Minor kidnapped, man booked 

The Meharban police have booked a man on the charge of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl. The accused has been identified as Ravi, a resident of Kakowal. Complainant Mohd Shakir, a resident of Jaspal colony, told the police that his daughter Sahiba Khatoon was kidnapped by the accused on July 30 as he wanted to marry his daughter. The police have launched a manhunt to recover the girl.

Property fraud: Case registered 

The Jamalpur police have booked a man on the charge of committing property fraud. The accused has been identified as Harvinder Singh, a resident of Mundia Kalan. Complainant Rajiv Singh, a resident of Civil Lines, told the police that he had struck a deal to buy a plot from the accused and in lieu, had already paid Rs 5 lakh in advance to the accused. Now, the accused refused to execute the registration of the property. The accused is yet to be arrested.

Man misbehaves with cops

The PAU police have registered a case against a man identified as Lucky, a resident of Jainpur village, for misbehaving with the police officials and also tearing off the uniform of one of the cops. Complainant Head Constable Narinder Singh said on July 31, he along with ASI Rafiq Mohammad had gone to Jainpur village after receiving a complaint that the accused hurled stones in the house of complainant. When the police party reached there, the accused abused Narinder and also tore his uniform. He was yet to be arrested.— TNS
