Lock, opens the doors!

‘Lock’ like, the word ‘experiment’ is finally finding takers in the Punjabi cinema! Smeep Kang directed Punjabi film Lock is one such attempt of presenting a film that breaks many stereotypes of the Punjabi film industry.

Starring Gippy Grewal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Karamjit Anmol, Smeep Kang and Geeta Basra in the lead roles, Lock gives a peek into an untouched yet real face of society that no one wants to accept or face in real. 

The story of the film written by Pali Bhupinder, is original and interesting. The writer smartly creates a web of thrill and mystery, subtly playing with the human psychology. In terms of story, Lock definitely scores on all the points.

Even though the pace of the story is not as racy as it should have been, at the same time, the thrill of unexpected happening any minute keeps you on the edge of your seat. Now, this is where the Lock gains points, because no matter how much you try to unlock the mystery, it turns out to be completely different from it.

Director Smeep Kang has done an appreciable job as a director, but as one of the actors in the film, he couldn’t create that impact. There is something about his character that does not click. On the other hand, both Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi have done their best. None of the two actors have eaten up any extra screen space, the credit for which goes to Smeep Kang.  But the irony here is that as a character in a film, there seems to be undue exaggeration of his climbing the ladder off and on.

Even as we talk about the actors and their performance, Lock, is a film that is all about its story. And the story as we’ve mentioned earlier shows a face of society that we live in constant denial of.

If you are looking for humour, don’t expect a laugh riot, nevertheless, you would still be allowed a long smile. 

It would be important to mention actor Karamjit Anmol, immaterial of the length of the role, he justifies his part. Geeta Basra too slips into her character perfectly, without going overboard with her expressions, even though her character had this possibility throughout. Sippy Gill’s special appearance rakes up a mysterious angle, till you find out that it is just an appearance! 

No songs, no dance, no unnecessary stretching... Lock deserves a ten on ten for the story and for the one-of-its kind experiment in the non-commercial branch, but it loses point for its pace!
