Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi today responded point-by-point to allegations of wrongdoings levelled by BJP’s Bhupendra Yadav against the previous UPA government in connection with the AgustaWestland chopper scam.
Slamming the BJP government for its “hubris” and “arrogance of power", Singhvi said the Congress would not be intimidated by such tactics.
He also ridiculed the BJP’s attempt to link initials “CP, VP and AP” to the Congress. Citing the hawala case in which an initial “LKA” appeared and the high court said the presence of initials constituted no evidence, Singhvi said “AP” could stand for many people, including the present Chief Minister of Gujarat (Anandiben Patel)
On the other side, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said those named in a note by one of the alleged middleman should be questioned by the CBI and if necessary "in custody". Citing Italian court's documents, he alleged a bribe of 30 million euros was paid, out of which 6 million euros went to Indain Air Force personnel, 8.4 million euros to bureaucrats and Rs 125 crore to “AP”.
His speech was repeatedly disrupted by Congress members, who insisted on “authentication” of figures read out by him. Congress leader Anand Sharma, who repeatedly referred to Swamy as a tohfa, also warned the BJP to “beware of their new gift to Parliament”.
