Supreme Court Secretary General VSR Avadhani on Sunday strongly denied that Deputy Registrar Dr Anup Surendranath has resigned in protest against the apex court’s refusal to stay execution of Yakub Memon, convicted for his role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

Media reports on the issue were not only “incorrect but also highly misleading”, Avadhani said in a statement.

Dr Surendranath, who was on one-year deputation from National Law University, has been repatriated to his parent institution at his own request with effect from July 31, the SC official said.

In his letter, Dr Surendranath had said he wanted to be relieved as he wanted to pursue research projects, the SC said.
