Muzaffarnagar, September 14
Violent clashes fuelled by old rivalry broke out between two groups of villagers in Shamli district, injuring at least 12 people, police said.
The incident occurred at Mohammadpur Rai village on Wednesday evening, Kairana Police Station SHO Dharmender Singh said.
The trouble started between two locals, Zahur and Arif, over allotment of a fair price shop and it soon turned into a violent scuffle. People allegedly attacked one another with sharp-edged weapons and sticks, he said.
Singh said the situation was brought under control after police reached the spot. The injured were taken to a hospital.
Police have tightened security in the village. PTI
