Mumbai, June 22
While Mumbai got a respite from last week’s heavy showers, it was the turn of the coastal Maharashtra to bear the monsoon fury.
At least 22 people were killed in different parts of the state in the past 24 hours, according to the state disaster management cell.
While 12 people died after a landslide buried three houses in Ratnagiri’s Dabhol village, seven more lost their lives in a similar incident at Neral on the foothills of the Matheran hill station.
The landslides at both places happened in the wee hours of this morning, according to state home department officials.
According to the state police control room, teams of the NDRF have been rushed to both places for rescue and relief operations.
The landslide is said to have taken place at 3.30 am due to heavy rainfall. Three more deaths from drowning and electrocution have been reported from Palghar outside Mumbai.
