27, 000 diesel taxis off road

New Delhi: Nearly 27,000 diesel-run taxis will not be allowed to ply on the national capital’s roads from Sunday after the Supreme Court on Saturday refused to extend the April 30 deadline fixed for their conversion to the CNG mode.

New Delhi: Nearly 27,000 diesel-run taxis will not be allowed to ply on the national capital’s roads from Sunday after the Supreme Court on Saturday refused to extend the April 30 deadline fixed for their conversion to the CNG mode. The SC order is not applicable on cabs with an all-India permit.

Hundreds of diesel cabs ply on local routes to ferry people from Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad. “We are not going to extend the deadline. There is technology available, convert into CNG,” a Bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur said, rejecting the plea that it would affect the livelihood of drivers. — PTI
