New Delhi, July 25

Admitting that cases of fictitious appointments and duplication of names of faculty at some private technical institutes have come to light, the government today said the AICTE has initiated action to update faculty details of all technical institutions.

Over 9,000 (9,060) duplicate faculty have been identified in 7,155 AICTE approved institutes in Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The total number of faculty at these institutes as per online data is 51,5985. The average percentage of duplicate faculty is 1.76 per cent.

The AICTE has started updating faculty details of all technical institutions along with their PAN card and Aadhaar card on its web portal to avoid duplication of faculty, HRD MoS Mahendra Nath Pandey said in a reply in Lok Sabha today.

About 33.85 per cent of faculty have submitted their Aadhaar card details, while PAN card details have been given by 73.9 per cent of faculty on the AICTE website.

In case any institute fails to provide details of faculty as required as per norms, action against the institute, including withdrawal of recognition, will be initiated.
